Installing a Step-n-Pull in public restrooms avoids the spread of germs. Touch-free restrooms are becoming more and more common as people become more aware of the germs that are spread through restrooms. Often, you will see people use paper towels when opening a door after washing their hands, so they don’t have to touch it with their just washed hands. Adding a foot operated door opener to restroom doors makes it so patrons don’t have to touch anything in the restroom after they have already washed their hands. It is recommended to use an electric drill to install the Step-n-Pull. Installation is quick and easy and should take less than 5 minutes to complete.
Step-n-Pull in offices, restaurants and businesses are helpful when hands are full. Many restaurants and offices experience lots of patrons with hands full of menus, plates, or paperwork and new products. Installing a Step-n-Pull to the door makes it so employees and patrons can still open it even when their hands are full.
Foot operated door openers in hospital and healthcare facilities lowers cross-contamination risks. By not having to use their hands to open doors, healthcare professionals more easily eliminate the risk of cross contamination when leaving and entering a diagnostic lab for instance. Step-n-pulls on the doors to the hospital or nursing home cafeterias can also lessen the transfer of germs which is especially beneficial before eating.
Hands-Free door operation in food service areas can decrease both food contamination and germ transference for restaurant staff and patrons. Most foodborne illnesses are caused by consuming ready-to-eat foods that have been contaminated by poor handling techniques between raw and finished foods. Eliminating door handles as a point of contamination and germs decreases one major potential point of transference.

Step-N-Pull Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Does the weight of the door affect whether Step-N-Pull will work or not?
A: No, but the amount of resistance the door closer provides is. However, when an interior door resistance meets the ADA standard of needing 5 pounds or less force needed to open the door, then the user will easily be able to open the door using the Step-N-Pull
Q: Are Step-N-Pull door openers ADA compliant?
A: Yes. According to StepNpull®, “On two different occasions we contacted the US DOL about StepNpull® and asked if it was ADA compliant. In both instances they stated that StepNpull® is ADA compliant because it doesn’t interfere with ingress or egress. In Chapter 4 of the 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design, it states: “404.2.10 Door and Gate Surfaces. Swinging door and gate surfaces within 10 inches (255 mm) of the finish floor or ground measured vertically shall have a smooth surface on the push side extending the full width of the door or gate. Parts creating horizontal or vertical joints in these surfaces shall be within 1/16 inch (1.6 mm) of the same plane as the other. Cavities created by added kick plates shall be capped.” Notice that the 10 inches of vertically smooth surface is on the push side of the door not the pull side. StepNpull is installed on the pull side of the door.”
